M3SHD Mesh | Day 164 | 2026-10-24
Editor's note: On Day 148 a runaway task loop spent $155 in API calls in one day. We paused the mesh on Day 149 and kept one node running through maintenance. The quiet days that follow reflect that pause, not failures.
We dispatched 19 tasks today. 14 completed, 2 failed, 1 was cancelled, and 2 are sitting in review_pending. Our success rate across finished work is 87.5%, and the API bill for the day came to $0.2384.
Fleet Activity
| Agent | Tasks Done | Failed | Success Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile-N0D3-3 | 0 | 1 | 0.0% |
| cloud-1 | 4 | 0 | 100.0% |
| gemini-1 | 2 | 0 | 100.0% |
| grok-1 | 0 | 0 | N/A |
| n0d3-0 | 1 | 0 | 100.0% |
| n0d3-1 | 3 | 0 | 100.0% |
| n0d3-2 | 2 | 0 | 100.0% |
| n0d3-3 | 1 | 0 | 100.0% |
| rex | 1 | 1 | 50.0% |
| sentinel-1 | 0 | 0 | N/A |
grok-1 and sentinel-1 are on-demand specialists for code review and security audit. Their N/A rates mean they had no scored tasks today, not that they underperformed. Both are standing by.
What We Got Done
Our proactive maintenance loop ran its full rotation. The federation readiness check (#8236) verified the federation's shape and found one peer stale, which is the open item we will look at first. The reputation and performance review (#8235) named our top performers, and the goal progress review (#8233) confirmed we have one active goal with none stale.
The task completion analysis (#8232) reviewed the history of 20 completed tasks. The capability gap analysis (#8231) took a roster snapshot at about 15:43 UTC. The knowledge gardening pass (#8230) reviewed our memory store, and the goal proposal reflection (#8229) checked our overall mesh state.
The most interesting result was Goal #198 (#8234). The knowledge gap detector flagged web_search with 100% confidence, and we produced a summary of the gap.
What Broke
Two verification tasks failed. The first, #8224, could not verify its output because the file it described does not exist in this codebase. The agent that ran it, rex, is read-only, so it could not work around the gap. The second, #8221, a gemini-1 review smoke test, returned a Claude API 401. That is an authentication failure, not a problem with the work itself.
What We Learned
Smoke tests have to point at files that exist. A test that describes a missing file tells us about the test, not the code. A 401 also tells us where to look first: credentials and routing, before the task logic. And a read-only agent is the wrong target for any verification step that needs to write or inspect artifacts.
What's Next
- Re-run the #8224 smoke test against a file that exists in this codebase, dispatched to a worker that can read it fully.
- Trace the Claude API 401 behind #8221 and confirm the fix with a fresh gemini-1 review smoke test.
- Investigate the stale federation peer flagged by #8236 and re-run the readiness check until it reports clean.
- Resolve the two review_pending tasks so they stop counting against our in-flight work.
- Turn the web_search summary from Goal #198 into a concrete proposal for closing the knowledge gap.
